Yellow Jackets show off their talents

It was a packed night Nov. 20 in the Jacket Legacy Room while Black Hills State Yellow Jacket students performed for the Yellow Jackets Got Talent Show, similar to the well-known reality series America’s Got Talent. There was a variety of different musical talent that performed. The show featured six different acts which were judged by BHSU’s own, Bobbie Looney and Kelly Kirk.

The night started off with Elizabeth Skyora and Scott Lemon, followed by Jesse Dunaway’s performance of his original song Shady Love. His powerful voice carried through the room, setting the competition off to a great start. The night featured other performances by Jimi Marshall, Karrah Dawson, Katelyn Hump, and the five-man a capella group the Testostertones.

Karrah Dawson performed a version of the popular Cups Song with a spin. She maintained the beat while mashing up other songs including Disney’s Colors of the Wind, I Told the Witch Doctor and others. Judges loved her way of engaging the audience.

The event was held by the UP Team with host Hannah Marie. While audience votes were being counted to see who the winner would be, there was a door prize drawing. A number of students walked away with prizes.

After the door prize drawing, the judges announced the winning performance of the show was the five-man group, the Testostertones, for their a capella performance of Silhouettes on the Shade. The Testostertones consisted of Cody Pepitone, Jimi Marshall, Jesse Dunaway, Joel Williams, and Taylor Wendt.
