Freshman, Taryn Mayer, played in her very first collegiate golf tournament on Sept. 4 in Pueblo, Colo.

Mayer led her team throughout the next two days of the tournament. A large amount of nerves comes with this amount of pressure.

“Going into my very first tournament I was very nervous. I remember feeling sick to my stomach the moment I woke up that morning. My coach watched me tee off on the first hole, which kind of helped the nerves, but I still topped it off the tee, it literally went 10 yards and it was mortifying. I just tried to shake off the first hole and I ended up doing pretty well for myself,” said Mayer as she described her time at the tournament.

Mayer led the team, despite her nervousness with an impressive 36-hole total of 166. This score put Mayer at 33rd individual overall. The whole team totaled an overall score of 704 to tie for 10th overall in the tournament.

The Yellow Jackets have three more tournaments held in Lakewood, Colo., Marshall, Minn. and Bellevue, Neb.
