As the fall semester winds down, BH Athletics continues with many seasons finishing up and some seasons just getting started
Yellow Jacket Football Season Ends with Back-to-Back Wins
Yellow Jacket football faced their final three opponents of the season, facing Colorado Mesa at home, where they lost 45-38 despite quarterback Luke Duby’s impressive leadership through the air, totaling 313 yards for three touchdowns and no interceptions. Wide receiver TJ Chukwurah hauled in 10 catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns, and running back Cameron Goods rushed for 83 yards and one touchdown. The Jacket football team turned around and won its final two games, beating Adams State on the road 59-0, where Duby threw for 331 yards and five touchdowns, wide receiver Kelby Olson hauled in three catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns and Goods rushed for 86 yards in the victory. The team then returned home for their final game of the season, facing New Mexico Highlands, where the Yellow Jackets won 55-28 with Duby throwing for 323 yards and two touchdowns as well as two interceptions, Goods rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns and Chukwurah hauled in seven catches for 147 yards and one touchdown. The team finished with an overall record of three wins and eight losses.
Cross Country Finishes Strong
The Yellow Jacket Cross Country team had its final two meets for the season with the Bauer XC Classic and the NCAA Division 2 Cross Country South Central Regional. In the Bauer XC Classic, the men’s team placed first with 20 points, and the women’s team also placed first with 15 points. In the NCAA Division 2 Cross Country South Central Regional, the men’s team placed 12th with 382 points while the women’s team placed 14th with 399 points.
Women’s Soccer Season Ends in Disappointment
The Yellow Jacket Women’s Soccer team had its final two matchups of the season, facing Westminster and Regis on the road. The team lost both matchups, losing 3-0 against Westminster and 3-1 against Regis. The team finished with a record of four wins, nine losses and five ties.
Women’s Volleyball Season Ends in Losing Streak
The Yellow Jacket Women Volleyball season ended in a seven-match losing streak, where in November they faced their final six matchups starting in the RMAC Power Pod, where the team faced Chadron State, losing 3 sets to 0, and New Mexico Highlands, losing 3 sets to one, in Chadron, Nebraska. The team continued their road trip, traveling to Colorado School of Mines, where they lost 3 sets to 0, and then finished the road trip by traveling to South Dakota School of Mines, where they lost 3 sets to 0. They then returned home for their final two matchups, facing Colorado Mesa and Westminster. However, the return home didn’t seem to help the team as they lost both matchups, losing 3 sets to 0 to Colorado Mesa and 3 sets to 1 against Westminster. The team finished with a record of six wins and 20 losses.
Men’s Basketball Starts Season Strong
The Yellow Jacket Men’s Basketball team started their season on Nov. 16, facing Sul Ross State, where the Yellow Jackets won 86-54. They followed up that win with another win against Texas A&M International the next day on Nov. 17, winning 89-57. The team then traveled to Moorhead, Minnesota, for the East/West Challenge, where they lost their first game of the season, losing to the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons 100-85; however, the Yellow Jackets bounced back and beat the Augustana Vikings, winning 75-71.
Women’s Basketball Starts Slow
The Yellow Jacket Women’s Basketball team started their season on Nov. 14, facing St. Edward’s, where they picked up their first win of the season, winning 73-42. However, since then, it has been rough going for the Women’s team, losing their next three games to St. Mary’s (Texas), where they lost 61-58, Minnesota Crookston, where they lost 75-68, and Northern State, where they lost 56-54.
