College Democrats send students to print with ‘The Post’

On Oct. 16, the Black Hills State University College Democrats hosted a viewing of “The Post” by Steven Spielberg in room 110 of Jonas Hall.

The movie focused on main character, Katherine Graham and her endeavors as the first female editor of the Washington Post. The plot follows Graham as she competes with The New York Times to expose government secrets spanning through three decades and four presidential elections. Working together with another editor, Ben Bradlee, their careers are both at stake. However, they strive to bring light to these hidden government truths.

All students and community members were welcomed to the event, regardless of political affiliation. The College Democrats provided free refreshments including Skittles, M&Ms

and popcorn.

Over 15 students attended the showing and participated in discussion following the film. Sexism, freedoms of the press, current government statuses, ethics in journalism and the Vietnam War were some of many topics debated following the feature.
