Empty Bowls fundraiser works to fill of the tables of local community members

At 5 p.m. on Oct. 16, 2019 students, professors and community members will come together at the Deadwood Social Club to raise funds for local food pantries.

Black Hills State University professor Jerry Rawlings of the Mass Communications department started empty bowls several years ago as a way to give back to the community and exhibit local artists at the same time.

Artists from the Black Hills area handmake bowls and donate them to the event, which can be bought for $10 and used for soup served at the occasion. Photographers also donate photos to the event for a silent auction.

The 2019 event includes a meal of soup for $10, a silent auction of the art donated and live music by Sean Baxter. All funds raised at this event are donated to local food banks in the northern Black Hills area.
