As someone who has changed their major upwards of three times in the time I’ve been in college, one thing has stayed consistent: my involvement with the Jacket Journal. I was writing food reviews and that was it. I was too busy.
And then I decided that I had enough time for a news story here and there. And then I decided I could come in and help copyedit on production nights. And then I decided that I had enough time to help new writers learn AP style. And then I decided I had enough time to step in, with Josh’s help, once Nathan moved up to be the Editor-in-Chief of Ponder.
Now who doesn’t have time? In all seriousness, the Jacket Journal has been a consistent part of my life for the past three years and I couldn’t be happier with being able to help run it, even if it does take up a lot of time. I’ve made great friends, talked to interesting people, learned about the Spearfish community and learned so much about journalism that I never would have learned without the Journal, nor without Nathan Feller, Hunter Davis and Dr. Justin Bergh.
I hope that the Journal is able to prosper under Josh’s and my guidance, and I hope that we start learning that seeing the sun on production day is important.
